Pre-Book Fest Event: Free Screening of "The Public"

Join a pre-Book Fest screening of The Public, written and directed by Emilio Estevez on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Learn about the role public librarians and libraries play in serving their patrons, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill, and marginalized members of the community. This film focuses on these people, along with the library staff that form emotional connections with these patrons and develop a sense of obligation to care for them. This story tackles some of our nation's most challenging issues and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.

Plot: An act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati stage a sit-in at the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold.

Watch the Preview:

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open at 10:45am, and the screening will begin at 11am.
