How to Talk to Authors


LQ Book Fest is 10 DAYS AWAY! Wow! We are so excited and we hope you are too!

We have a new book display up featuring some of the authors' books so be sure to check some out if you haven't read them already!

Don't forget that we will have the wonderful folks from Cellar Door Books coming to sell the authors' books if you want to purchase them for the Author Signing session at the end of the day. If you do plan to participate in it, here are some tips about talking with the authors:
  • If you've read their work, tell them how much you like or love it and/or how much it means to you. 
    • Did you love a certain phrase or character? 
    • Did the book inspire you to be creative or take some action? 
    • Think about if you wrote a book, what would you want a reader to tell you at a signing?
  • Say something relevant to what they said at the event or panel discussion they were on. 
  • Keep it brief! Remember that they may have a lot of signing to do and unfortunately not a lot of time to chat but that doesn't mean you can't still have a quick and meaningful conversation!
  • It might be awkward but that's okay. You're meeting someone for the first time and it isn't always going to be a perfect chat.
  • Before you go, be sure to thank them for coming!

Book Fest 2022 Wrap Up

ICYMI, our week-long celebration of books and bookish-ness (AKA La Quinta Book Fest 2022) took place February 14-18. We hosted a panel session on retellings with four amazing authors, a book club with the book's author, and a writing workshop! Attendees also received a special Book Fest bag, free book, and were entered into a drawing to win SIGNED COPIES of our guest authors' books! We already have a few ideas for Book Fest 2023 and we'll start planning it soon! Yes, it does take a lot of time to plan something like this...but we love it! And we love that we can provide these types of events for our community. A special and huge thank you to our guest authors-- Katee Robert, Josh Malerman, Michelle Ruiz Keil, Jill Alexander Essbaum, and Aminah Mae Safi-- for joining us to talk about their books, writing process, inspirations, and more! Poet and Author Jill Alexander Essbaum to Join La Quinta Book Fest 2022 Panel

Poet Jill Alexander Essbaum and author of  Hausfrau , will join our  Tales Retold  panel session at Book Fest 2022! Jill Alexander Essbaum is the author of several collections of poetry including Heaven (winner of the Katherine Bakeless Nason prize), Necropolis, Harlot, and most recently, Would-Land. Her first novel, Hausfrau, was a New York Times Bestseller and has been translated into 26 languages.  Her work has appeared in dozens of journals including Poetry, The Christian Century, Image,  and The Rumpus, and has been included in textbooks and anthologies including The Best American Erotic Poems and two editions of the annual Best American Poetry anthology.
